Never has business been more international than today. That is what we are all facing in our respective industries and companies. Global marketing to consumers who have more in common with like-minded people on the side of the globe than people in the next city. International customers who buy the same goods from suppliers in different countries, and at different prices. Global pools of internal talent who need development and mobility. Controlling and accounting of foreign subsidiaries. Supply chain setups with sourcing and supply going around the globe. Research & Development according to the “follow-the-sun” principle. These are just a few of the hundreds of fields in business where internationalisation is changing the current landscape.

But is business really global? Not really, according to a study by Professor Alan Rugman. Actually only 2% of the world’s 500 largest companies can be considered truly global with important sales in all major regions. Most multinationals today actually focus on one region (Americas, Europe or Asia Pacific) and while they probably have some presence outside that region they derive more than 80% of their sales from that home region. Why? Because the transactional costs of doing business far away from home are still higher than selling in your home market or home region. Internationalisation means that we have become somewhat better at doing business in neighbouring countries, but there are still many challenges to do international business.

At Stratinis we see it as our mission to help our clients to better business internationally. We do this by offering a variety of software systems to manage these international challenges. We can help lowering the implicit and sometimes hidden costs of managing business far away. The result is that our clients increase their international sales, improve processes and generally reap the benefits of doing business globally.
